Bess Chisum Stephens Community Center
On December 15, 2008, the Bess Chisum Stephens YWCA was gifted to The Centers for Youth and Families to become a program within the organization. It was renamed the Bess Chisum Stephens Community Center and over the past two years, The Centers has added and expanded programs to enhance the quality of services being offered. Some of the changes have appeared very minor while others have been either a large financial investment or a significant time commitment associated with the change. Whether it seems “small” or “large,” each change has been beneficial to the members, the organization, and also the community.
Pool : Our most recent project transformed the pool area. We now offer a wonderful indoor, heated pool for both recreational and physical fitness activity. Recent work included painting, roof renovations, new ceiling tiles, sandblasting and retiling of the pool, new filters, and more. We have also received brand new, top-of-the-line equipment and are so excited to bring the community a fun and safe place to enjoy the water, no matter the season!
Exercise Options: If you enjoy land-based exercises, then check out our cardio and strength training areas. These two exercise areas are equipped with user-friendly equipment that is handicap accessible. Organized group exercise classes are also offered, including Zumba, Zumba Gold and Step. Aquatic group exercise classes are offered as well in our newly renovated pool area.
Being Social: Socializing is also an important aspect of our Community Center. We have a Social Room where people regularly congregate to visit, play board games, share recipes, and visit with friends. Our younger members also really enjoy the Nintendo Wii gaming area.
Specifically for Seniors: The Community Center features a program specifically designed for seniors. Excursions are planned monthly to visit various places of interest in the community. CareLink provides lunch every Monday from noon until 12:30 at the Community Center. We have also introduced a Super Noggin class to help keep the minds of seniors active and sharp.
We are so proud of our Bess Chisum Stephens Community Center! We encourage you to come out to tour this facility and see how it can be a benefit to you and your family. The facility is available for rental with very reasonable rates making it affordable to the community.
